After the media circus that is transfer deadline day, I have to say we’ve now got more than enough in the squad to consolidate our place in the Championship.
David Sharpe and Gary Caldwell have filled the gaps that desperately needed filling. We needed a right-back/right-wing-back and we got Nathan Byrne on a permanent deal to finally fill that void.
Craig Morgan, Jake Buxton and Stephen Warnock are all experienced defenders, but we needed some pace in our backline. We now have that in Reece Burke, who was Bradford City’s Player of the Season last term.
And even though Will Grigg is STILL on fire, we now have some much needed competition up front.
The signing of Adam Le Fondre has divided opinion, but if we can get him firing again then he will score goals, whether he’s up front on his own or as a partner for Grigg.
Kaiyne Woolery also adds to the competition up top. He is only 21-years-old which means he has time on his side, however, the Bolton fans were keen to point out how good of a player he already is and they were genuinely sad to see him go.
Alongside the highs of the transfer window comes the lows and there are some deals that, as fans, are out of our control.
In an ideal World, you want to keep your best players and fan favourites, but that is not always the case.
Like many of our supporters, I was also disappointed to see both Jason Pearce and Sam Morsy go. What I don’t share with those supporters is the blame they are heaping on the club.
A transfer is a two-way thing; the decision has to be made by considering the player’s point of view as well as the club’s. What I’m trying to say is maybe Pearce and Morsy wanted to leave for personal reasons? You never know.
Personally, I think we’ve had a good transfer window and I’m excited to see this team gel and kick on.
If you’re not happy because you wanted us to spend daft money to bring Callum McManaman back then I don’t envy you. You should support the team through thick and thin, no matter the personnel.
Now, let’s get this international break out the way and kick-start our season!
